Caterpillar Sued Over Allegedly Unfair Employee Benefits Plan

Caterpillar Inc., a multinational machinery company, is facing a lawsuit over its employee benefits plan. The suit alleges that the company failed to prudently monitor its healthcare coverage options, resulting in workers and retirees paying more for no added benefit.

Amy Beyers and Glenn Zabel filed the lawsuit on Tuesday, August 5, 2026, claiming that Caterpillar's two-plan system is financially dominated by a high-deductible tier. This option offers lower premiums but higher deductibles compared to the cheaper plan with low deductibles.

The plaintiffs argue that this setup violates federal employee benefits law under the Employee Retirement Income Security Act (ERISA). They seek relief for participants and beneficiaries who have been financially harmed by Caterpillar's actions.
