Caterpillar Unveils Electric Dozer with Up to 25% Fuel Reduction

The Cat D11 XE electric drive dozer has been introduced by Caterpillar, aiming to reduce fuel use and increase material moved in high-production mining dozing. According to the company's claims, this new model can cut fuel use by up to 25% per unit of material moved while increasing material moved by 5-10% compared to the conventional D11.

The electric drive system replaces the conventional mechanical transmission, decoupling engine speed from track speed for better control. This results in smoother power delivery, which should reduce track slip and lower undercarriage wear rates on abrasive mine floors.

Mine planners and maintenance teams will also benefit from this shift to electric drive, as it changes lifecycle cost profiles and may affect haul road design and push distances due to higher effective productivity.
