Caterpillar Unveils Fuel-Efficient Electric Dozer D11 XE

Caterpillar has unveiled its first electric drive large dozer, the D11 XE. This machine is designed to be more fuel-efficient and produce fewer greenhouse gas emissions than previous models.

The D11 XE can move up to 10% more material per hour than the Cat D11 and consumes up to 25% less fuel per unit of material moved. As a result, it reduces greenhouse gas emissions by 20% to 25%. The machine's operating weight ranges from 238,796 to 257,958 pounds, depending on configuration.

The electric drivetrain in the D11 XE has 60% fewer moving parts than mechanical drive systems, which simplifies service and lowers owning and operating costs. The system also eliminates the bevel gear used in mechanical drives. The engine drives a generator that sends power through an inverter to two motors, delivering consistent power to the tracks.

The D11 XE features accessible electronic steering and controls for precise maneuvering. It also includes a suspended undercarriage that absorbs impact and reduces shock load transfer by up to 50%. The machine's engine has heavier-duty internal components and operates at a lower high-idle speed, helping to deliver up to 20% longer life between rebuilds.
