CBOE Expands Trading Hours for Stock Options
The Chicago Board Options Exchange (CBOE) has announced plans to extend trading hours for stock options starting next Monday, August 17, 2026. This move will allow popular single-name options to trade in pre-market and post-close sessions, mirroring the trend of equities moving towards around-the-clock trading.
The new Global Trading Hours (GTH) session will run from 7:30 a.m. to 9:25 a.m., with order acceptance and pre-open queuing beginning at 7:15 a.m. Regular trading hours remain unchanged from 9:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. ET. Additionally, a new Curb session will run from 4:00 to 4:15 p.m. ET.
Twenty-one shares have been selected for this extended-hours option trading, including major names such as Apple (AAPL.US), NVIDIA (NVDA.US), Tesla (TSLA.US), and Micron Technology (MU.US). These stocks were chosen based on their high average daily volume of 150k contracts and market cap exceeding $50 billion.
It's worth noting that stock-option traders will now be able to react more quickly to news events, as the underlying index can move instantly in response to a scheduled print landing before the open. This change is particularly relevant given the increasing frequency of pre-market catalysts such as earnings announcements and macroeconomic data releases.
