CBPF and ExxonMobil Brasil Leverage IBM Quantum Computers in Oil and Gas Research
The Brazilian Center for Physics Research (CBPF) and ExxonMobil Brasil are using IBM quantum computers to explore key challenges in the oil and gas industry.
They have chosen two research fronts focused on developing quantum algorithms aimed at solving partial differential equations used to simulate how waves propagate through different materials in oil exploration, and sampling-based algorithms in a quantum-centered supercomputing framework to model molecules that may contribute to the discovery of more effective materials for carbon capture.
This collaboration is part of IBM's Quantum Network, which has over 340 organizations working together to accelerate quantum innovation in various industries. CBPF gained access to IBM's portfolio of quantum computers and the Qiskit software through this network.
