Chandigarh Police Nab Fake Call Centre Kingpin in Cyber Fraud Case

A cybercrime investigation in Chandigarh has led to the arrest of Ajay Singh alias Ajay Singh Mann, a suspected mastermind behind a fake call centre that cheated credit card users.

Singh was arrested on February 22nd after a months-long probe into a case where a resident of Sector 45, Chandigarh, was duped of Rs. 1.73 lakh through a phishing scam.

The victim received a call from a woman claiming to be an American Express executive, who allegedly offered to enhance the credit limit of his SBI credit card and sent a fake Google form and a fraudulent link via WhatsApp.

Police said that unauthorised transactions worth nearly Rs. 1.73 lakh were carried out after the victim clicked on the link.
