Chanos Uncovers CoreWeave's Hidden Vulnerability
Short-seller Jim Chanos has sounded the alarm on CoreWeave's (CRWV) reliance on Nvidia (NVDA) for its AI computing capacity. According to Chanos, Nvidia effectively controls the neocloud business model, and companies like CoreWeave depend on Nvidia GPUs to deliver their services.
In a recent post on X, Chanos stated that 'the neoclouds are financial conduits, not technology companies.' He added that Nvidia's control over GPU allocation policies and pricing could potentially breach or bypass the moats created by these cloud computing providers.
The issue at hand is CoreWeave's rapid growth, which some argue may be a facade. A recent report questioned CEO Mike Intrator's claim that customers choose CoreWeave for its quality of product, suggesting instead that it relies on Nvidia's GPUs to provide the necessary computing capacity.
