Chapek's Disney Downfall: Memoir to Expose High-Stakes Maneuverings
Former Disney CEO Bob Chapek is set to release his tell-all memoir on September 29, just over two years after his dismissal from the company. The book, titled 'Behind the Castle Walls: My 30 Years at the Happiest Place on Earth,' will be a collaborative effort with author Don Yaeger and promises to reveal the high-stakes maneuverings that took place behind the scenes during Chapek's tenure.
Chapek was appointed as CEO just weeks before the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced closures of Disney's theme parks and cruise ships, leaving thousands of employees out of work. The memoir will explore what led to his ousting in 2022, as well as the decision to bring back former CEO Bob Iger.
The book description asks questions about whether Chapek was given a fair shot or set up to fail, and what drove his dismissal. Chapek himself hopes that the memoir will be his true legacy and preserve the magic of Disney for future generations.
