ChatGPT Connects Multiple Google Accounts with Wider Permissions
OpenAI's ChatGPT has lifted a limit on connecting multiple Google accounts to the same plugin. Until August 28, users could only connect one account per plugin. Now, several accounts for Gmail, Google Calendar, and Google Contacts can be connected at once within the same conversation.
The feature is available worldwide on supported Plus, Pro, Business, and Enterprise plans, including web, desktop, iOS, and Android platforms. Free accounts and the Go plan do not have access to this feature.
However, the permissions ChatGPT asks for when connecting multiple accounts go beyond reading. For Gmail, it requests 'gmail.modify,' which allows read, compose, and send emails from the account, excluding immediate permanent deletion that bypasses the trash. For Calendar, it requests 'calendar.events,' covering entries rather than a read-only view. Google Contacts is limited to reading only.
Users can detach connected accounts at any time in ChatGPT settings, but this does not delete existing conversations or saved memories. Those have to be deleted separately, and deleted chats are scheduled for permanent removal within 30 days.
