ChatGPT has rolled out an update to its service that integrates Google Drive directly into its chat interface. Paid users can now add files from their Google Drive account, ask questions about them, and even edit supported documents without leaving the conversation.

The new feature reduces the need for users to switch between ChatGPT and other Google apps when working with files stored in Drive. Users can select a file from their library and use it as context for questions, summaries, or edits within the chat.

According to Adam Fry, Consumer Product Lead at ChatGPT, users can add Google Drive files by selecting the + button beside the prompt field and choosing 'Add from Library.' Once added, the files can be used for various document-related tasks. The integration also allows users to open and edit files directly within the chat without leaving the conversation.

Fry clarified that ChatGPT edits the actual file stored in Google Drive rather than creating a static copy based on the original document. This ensures seamless collaboration across both platforms.
