Cheaper Business-Class Tickets Come With Strings Attached

Airlines like Delta and United are now offering cheaper business-class tickets but with fewer perks. These unbundled flights have a lower upfront price, but passengers will have to pay extra for amenities that were once included.

This trend is not new, as ultra-low-cost carriers like Frontier Airlines initially offered unbundled fares. However, the major airlines introduced basic economy fares, which have become more restrictive over time. Now, even premium fares are being unbundled.

The cheapest business-class tickets will still offer a bigger seat, but passengers will have to pay extra for services like free checked bags, advanced seat selection, and lounge access. For example, Delta's new basic business fares currently include access to Delta lounges until January 18, 2027. After that date, lounge access will no longer be included.

Co-branded credit cards can help restore some benefits for passengers who opt for unbundled business-class tickets.
