Chevron Commits Over $10 Billion to Nigerian Content and Capacity Building
Chevron Nigeria Limited has committed over $10 billion to supporting local content and capacity building in Nigeria, according to the company's general manager for Corporate Affairs. Speaking at a workshop on 'Enhancing Professional Skills and Ethical Standards in Oil and Gas Journalism' in Asaba, Delta State, Olusoga Oduselu revealed that Chevron invests over $1 billion annually in local content.
The funds have been used to support contractors and communities across the country, with a focus on community development projects. The company's GMoU (Global Memorandum of Understanding) program has provided funding and monitored progress through Non-Governmental Organisations (NGOs), giving communities ownership of development projects and the power to determine their needs.
Chevron has also contributed significantly to Nigeria's oil production, with investments in onshore, offshore, and deep offshore platforms. The company has reduced gas flaring by 98 percent, with plans to eliminate it entirely, reflecting its commitment to environmental sustainability.
