Chevron Cuts Gas Flaring to 2%, Pioneers Community Development Model
Chevron Nigeria Limited has made significant strides in reducing gas flaring by 98% over the past decade, according to its General Manager, Corporate Affairs, Oduselu Olusoga.
The company's efforts are aimed at promoting environmental sustainability and transitioning to cleaner energy sources. Chevron gathers and treats the gathered gas before pushing it into the domestic market.
In addition to reducing gas flaring, Chevron has also been investing heavily in Nigerian content development, allocating $1 million annually for this purpose.
The company's Global Memorandum of Understanding (GMOU), established in 2005, has enhanced participatory partnership models that bring communities into the development process. This has led to community ownership and determination of their needs, with Chevron providing funding and support for projects such as hospitals, water, and electricity.
