Chevron Faces Off Against Louisiana Parish Over $745 Million Damage Award
The ongoing legal battle between Plaquemines Parish and Chevron is set to continue as the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals decides whether the case should remain in state court or be moved to federal court.
In a 2025 lawsuit, Plaquemines Parish was awarded $745 million after finding Chevron liable for causing damage to the coastal wetlands. However, Chevron wants the judgment overturned and the case transferred to federal court.
Louisiana Attorney General Liz Murrill stated that even in federal court, Chevron should be held responsible for the damages caused by their actions. 'The truth is Chevron never denied dumping four billion gallons of toxic wastewater in our marsh,' she said.
