Chevron Faces Penalty Over Renewable Gas System Violations
The South Dakota Public Utilities Commission is considering a penalty against Chevron New Energies for violating federal requirements at its renewable natural gas system in Turner County.
The alleged violation occurred when the company failed to meet the required timeframe for compressor inspection and testing, as well as completion of compressor station procedures.
Commission staff calculated the proposed penalty of $27,912.50 based on factors in state law, which is significantly lower than the maximum possible fine of $2 million.
Chevron New Energies acknowledged the violation and will pay the civil penalty, according to a response filing from Sebastian De La Rosa, operations and maintenance manager for RNG facilities at Chevron New Energies.
