Chevron, LyondellBasell Surge as Strait of Hormuz Tensions Soar
The Strait of Hormuz incident has led to increased oil and gas prices, benefiting energy firms like Chevron (CVX) and LyondellBasell (LYB). Chevron's Q2 revenue rose by 56.2% year-over-year to $70 billion, with the company earning $6.06 in revenue. The firm's management team is considered solid, offering a stable dividend.
Chevron's developments in Venezuela are seen as a growth driver for the company. In contrast, LyondellBasell has a high chance of retaking its 2024 price target of $83.94 due to the ongoing 'forever war' in Iran and potential chemical price increases.
The chemical producer posted Q2 revenue of $9.18 billion, an increase of 19.8% year-over-year. LyondellBasell's CEO mentioned that six million tons of polyethylene capacity damage in the Middle East supply will not restart until at least 2027, leading to higher prices for its products.
On the other hand, Roblox (RBLX) is advised against due to a recent decline in bookings growth. The company's CEO stated that bookings growth was within guidance but below internal goals. To address this issue, Roblox implemented an age check on its platform, resulting in decreased revenue and a stock price drop of 26.85% on July 30.
