Chevron Outpaces ExxonMobil as Top Dividend Compounder
Chevron and ExxonMobil are two energy giants with significant dividend payments. While both companies have their differences, Chevron is expected to be a better dividend compounder over the next decade.
One key difference between the two companies is their growth initiatives. ExxonMobil has invested heavily in carbon capture technology, which is expected to grow at an annual pace of nearly 20% through 2035. This investment will not only reduce fossil fuels' carbon emissions but also prolong crude oil's marketable lifespan.
On the other hand, Chevron is rethinking how to effectively and efficiently get its products to end users who need them most. The company has announced plans to deliver gas directly to a data center site that will use it to power a natural gas turbine generating electricity onsite. This business model expansion may provide Chevron with a competitive edge in the energy sector.
Another important factor to consider is the companies' dividend profiles. Chevron's higher dividend yield of 3.7% is significantly higher than ExxonMobil's 2.6%. Over the past decade, Chevron's quarterly per-share payout has increased by 66%, from $1.07 to $1.78, outpacing ExxonMobil's 37% increase.
While both companies have their strengths and weaknesses, Chevron's dividend growth and higher yield make it a more attractive option for investors looking to compound their dividend income over the next decade.
