Chevron Secures Major Expansion Agreement in Venezuela
Chevron is on the verge of expanding its operations in Venezuela after securing agreements to broaden its presence in the country's oil fields. The US energy giant is negotiating to bring two heavy-oil field assets into its portfolio, alongside three existing partnerships with state oil firm PDVSA.
The agreements are set to be announced on Wednesday in Venezuela's capital city, coinciding with Energy Secretary Chris Wright's visit. Halliburton, an American oilfield services provider, is also negotiating to supply equipment and services to Venezuela's petroleum industry.
Chevron currently operates as the sole major American oil producer in the country, operating under exclusive US government authorization. The company's operational experience provides a competitive advantage over its peers, who have been hesitant to participate due to concerns about nationalization and infrastructure costs.
