Chevron Stock Soars as Venezuela Deal Brings Record Investment Opportunities
Chevron's stock has been steadily climbing over the past few months and is now hovering near its all-time high of $210, currently trading at $201. The company is eyeing a massive investment in Venezuela, with President Donald Trump announcing a deal for US companies to develop Venezuelan oil resources. Delcy Rodriguez said the deal would last 25 years and target an increase in crude output to 1.5 million barrels per day.
American companies are expected to make over $100 billion in investments in the country, with the government receiving over $209 billion in taxes. Chevron is set to be a major beneficiary of this deal, with the company possibly announcing its expansion plans as soon as this week. However, the deal faces significant challenges from Venezuelan politicians and requires Chevron to spend billions on developing these resources.
The new developments come at an opportune time for Chevron, with elevated oil prices boosting the company's earnings. Brent and West Texas Intermediate have jumped to $88 and $83, respectively, leading to a sharp increase in Chevron's total earnings to $12 billion in the second quarter. This marks a significant rise from $2.4 billion last year.
