Chevron Stock Surges as Q2 Earnings Quadruple Amid Ongoing Middle East Conflict
Chevron's stock price rose by about 2% on Friday after the energy company reported a significant jump in profits for Q2. Net income soared to $12 billion, four times the $3 billion Chevron earned in the same quarter last year.
The driver behind these numbers is rising oil prices tied to conflict in the Middle East. Crude oil futures averaged $92.45 per barrel during the quarter, up 27% from Q1. CEO Mike Wirth said the disruption has expanded beyond the Strait of Hormuz, with Iran's Houthi allies extending the conflict into the Red Sea, a critical route for Saudi oil exports.
Chevron's production numbers backed up the strong results. U.S. output hit an all-time high of roughly 2 million barrels per day, boosted by surging exports as Middle East supply disruptions pushed buyers toward American oil. Worldwide production reached 4 million barrels per day, up 20% from 3.4 million a year ago.
