Chevron Sued Over Wetland Damages as Federal Court Jurisdiction Debated
Chevron USA is facing a lawsuit from Louisiana's Plaquemines Parish over damages to coastal wetlands. The case was argued before the Fifth Circuit on Wednesday, August 5, 2026.
Chevron's lawyers, led by Paul D. Clement of Clement & Murphy PLLC, claimed that a recent US Supreme Court decision meant the case should be heard in federal court.
Louisiana's counsel argued that the high court's decision was narrowly focused on a specific case and didn't apply to this one.
