Chevron Takes Down Idle Wind Turbines in Wyoming
Chevron's 11-turbine wind farm in Envisville near Casper, Wyoming has been idle for around four years since they first went up. The turbines only operated for a few months after being built.
The company is finally taking them down and removing the blades and towers. This process will take several months to complete, with soil and reclamation work set to start in 2027.
The Wyoming state has rules requiring companies like Chevron to restore land to its original condition after decommissioning wind or solar farms. While about 80-90% of the structure remains buried underground, guidelines dictate removing only the top few feet of the turbine's foundation.
