The Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) Delta State Council partnered with Chevron Nigeria Limited to organize a one-day workshop on oil and gas reporting. The event, held at the NUJ Press Centre in Asaba, aimed to enhance journalists' skills and ethical standards in covering the industry.
According to Olusoga Oduselu, Chevron's General Manager of Corporate Affairs, represented by Dr Victor Anyaegbudike, the company has committed to building journalists' capacity in specialized oil and gas reporting for the past 12 years. The oil and gas sector is highly technical and sensitive, requiring accurate and responsible reporting to shape public understanding.
The workshop featured lectures on various topics, including the oil and gas value chain, ethical reporting, health, safety, and environmental standards, crisis communication, energy transition, the Petroleum Industry Act, and host community relations. Experienced media professionals and academics led the sessions, emphasizing the importance of accuracy, fairness, and professional ethics in reporting.
