Chevron Urges Journalists to Prioritize Accuracy in Energy Reporting
Chevron Nigeria Limited has reaffirmed its commitment to supporting energy journalism in the country. The company, through its communications team led by Dr Victor Anyagbudike, organized a one-day capacity-building workshop for journalists in partnership with the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ) FCT Council in Abuja.
The training session focused on 'Strengthening Energy Journalism Through Knowledge, Data Accuracy and Artificial Intelligence' and is part of Chevron's broader media development initiative that began in 2014. Anyagbudike emphasized the importance of accurate reporting, stating that the media sets the agenda for public discourse and that journalists play a crucial role as the 'fourth estate of the realm.'
Chevron has previously trained over 140 journalists through its Advanced Writing and Reporting Skills (AWARES) program. With expanded collaborations across NUJ chapters in Lagos, Delta, and Abuja, the company aims to train close to 400 journalists by year-end.
