Chevron's $80 Billion Gorgon Project Hit with New Legal Challenge
Energy giant Chevron is facing a new legal challenge from Indigenous traditional owners against a key gas project in Australia. The challenge, filed by Raelene Cooper, targets the recent approval of infrastructure underpinning the multibillion-dollar Gorgon project.
The Gorgon project, valued at $80 billion, has been a subject of environmental disputes in the oil and gas sector. Mardathoonera woman Raelene Cooper, who has led a campaign against Woodside projects, filed the challenge this week.
The Federal Court will now consider the new legal challenge, which marks an escalation of environmental disputes surrounding major energy projects in Australia.
