Chevron's Gift to St. Charles Parish Finally Takes Shape as Boat Launch Nears Completion
A long-awaited boat launch project in St. Charles Parish is finally taking shape after years of delays, thanks to a generous land donation from Chevron.
The 110-acre site off U.S. Highway 90 and WPA Road was donated to the parish in 2021, with the project experiencing setbacks due to Hurricane Ida in 2021 and construction waiting on an access road built under the Lafourche Basin Levee District's Sunset Levee Lift Project in 2023.
The parish council approved a $4,989,859 construction contract with Cycle Construction Company, LLC in October 2025, and officials broke ground on January 6, 2026. The estimated 12-month construction phase is expected to wrap up by early 2027.
The boat launch will feature two launch bays extending 60 feet into the bayou, over 100 parking spaces, 200 feet of dock space, and on-site restrooms. More than $1.8 million of the funding comes from Natural Resource Damage Assessment and RESTORE Act grants tied to federal fines and settlements stemming from the 2010 BP Deepwater Horizon oil spill.
