Steven Donziger, an environmental lawyer, has regained his passport after being barred from leaving the US for seven years. He claims to be the only person in US history who's been prosecuted by a private company and locked up.

The case dates back to 2013 when Donziger won a $9.5 billion class action lawsuit against oil giant Chevron for pollution in Ecuador. However, Chevron has refused to pay any compensation.

Donziger's biggest legal victory was later followed by a monumental counteroffensive from Chevron, which saw him stripped of his right to practice law in New York and eventually landed him in prison. He claims the company built up a narrative to destroy the case and his reputation.
