Chevron's Offshore Discovery Lifts Shares Amid Capital-Efficient Plans
Chevron's shares rose 0.9% to $201.71 on Monday after the energy giant announced a significant oil and gas condensate discovery at an exploration well in Block 0 offshore Angola.
The company confirmed that its subsidiary, Cabinda Gulf Oil Company Ltd., encountered a hydrocarbon column exceeding 600 meters in the Pinda reservoir through the 105-4X exploration well in the Lower Congo Basin.
The interval included more than 90 meters of net pay in high-quality reservoir rock. Chevron operates Block 0 with a 39.2% working interest, while partners include Angola's state-owned Sonangol E&P at 41%, TotalEnergies at 10%, and Azule Energy at 9.8%.
Chevron plans to evaluate the discovery for potential development as a tie-back to nearby existing facilities, which could offer a capital-efficient route to production compared with building an entirely new offshore project.
