Chilean Miners Pioneer Electric Haul Truck Conversion
NewSteel Mining and Chile's Industrial and Mining Training Centre (CEIM) are teaming up on a pilot project to convert a diesel Caterpillar 777D haul truck into a battery-electric vehicle.
The conversion will involve developing and integrating a full electric powertrain and battery system into the 90-100 t class truck, with the aim of reducing emissions and increasing efficiency in mine operations.
The project is also intended as a training platform for mechanics, electricians, and operators to develop skills in high-voltage battery systems and electric fleet maintenance.
