China Accelerates Windows 10 Removal from State Agencies Amid Data Security Concerns
China has accelerated its plan to remove Microsoft's Windows 10 from state agencies. The decision was made due to data security concerns, according to Bloomberg, which cited people familiar with the matter.
The customised software, built by C&M Information Technologies (CMIT), a joint venture between Microsoft and China Electronics Technology Group Corporation, is set to be discontinued several months ahead of schedule. CMIT's version of Windows 10 was due to be retired in February 2027, but it will now be pulled from state agencies sooner.
The move comes weeks before US President Donald Trump's planned meeting with Chinese leader Xi Jinping. Bloomberg reported that the acceleration surprised some state agency staff.
