China Unveils Record-Breaking 800-Passenger Jet with 230ft Wingspan
China has unveiled ambitious plans for an 800-passenger 'flying wing' jet with a record-breaking 230ft wingspan. The mega sky bus would be roughly 1.6 times wider than a B-2 stealth bomber and could carry the same number of passengers as two to three normal flights while only requiring one runway movement.
The China Aerodynamics Research and Development Centre (CARDC) is spearheading the project, which aims to rival Boeing's aircraft. The centre has previously pioneered key aviation projects such as the C919 narrowbody airliner and the Y-20 military transport aircraft.
What sets this latest project apart is its massive scale. While a normal jumbo jet has two long corridors, the flying wing could be divided into several broad passenger bays, potentially including family sections, business areas, quiet zones, and private cabins.
