China's C919 Makes Historic International Debut

China's domestically built C919 aircraft has made its first international commercial flight, marking a significant step towards Beijing's goal of challenging Boeing and Airbus in the global market.

The narrow-body jet, produced by the state-owned Commercial Aircraft Corporation of China (COMAC) and operated by Air China, departed from Beijing Capital International Airport at 3:17 p.m. on August 12, 2026, bound for Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.

Passenger Hu Yuan expressed his 'sense of pride' flying on a domestically produced plane, hoping it would continue to improve in terms of comfort and overall passenger experience, potentially even outperforming Boeing and Airbus.
