China's Summer Getaways Shift to Industrial Tours
China's summer family getaways are taking an industrial turn, with factory tours becoming a popular addition to traditional sightseeing spots. In recent years, Chinese parents have been eager to send their children on study tours to broaden their horizons, and now they're adding immersive industrial experiences to the mix.
BMW Brilliance, the German automaker's joint venture in China, has opened its plants in Shenyang for free factory tours for national college and high school entrance exam takers. The largest production base operated by the BMW Group globally, it has hosted over 140,000 visitors since 2017, making it a signature attraction for travel in Liaoning.
Coca-Cola production workshops at COFCO Coca-Cola World are another of Shenyang's landmark tourist sites. Visitors can watch beverage bottles speed through automated production lines, with robotic arms stacking finished products neatly. The museum at the site displays classic Coca-Cola contour bottles, ranging from Olympic and World Cup commemorative editions to polar bear-themed installations.
