Chipotle Shares Decline Amid Nationwide Jalapeño Recall
Chipotle Mexican Grill's (CMG) shares declined by 0.8% to $31.87 in late Tuesday trading as the company faces ongoing fallout from a nationwide jalapeño recall.
The FDA reported that the chain sourced peppers from Taylor Farms, which issued the recall, but Chipotle has since switched suppliers and stopped serving the implicated product.
Despite this, consumer hesitation poses a significant equity risk, with analysts warning that consumers may avoid all Taylor Farms products for a while. The company's traffic rose by 1.0% in the second quarter, but its restaurant-level margin declined by 2.2 points.
The recall has also led to a slight drop in sales at other chains, including Cava Group (CAVA), Yum! Brands (YUM), and McDonald's (MCD).
