Christopher Walken's Baffling Turn in Disney's The Country Bears Box Office Bust

Disney has produced several movies based on its theme park attractions, but most have not fared well at the box office. One notable exception is the Pirates of the Caribbean franchise, which has been a major success.

However, not all Disney theme park adaptations have been successful. In 2002, the company released The Country Bears, a musical comedy film based on the popular animatronic show at Disneyland's Bear Country.

The movie featured a cast of singing musician bear characters, including Henry and Romeo 'Liver Lips' McGrowl, who were brought to life through a combination of animatronics and voice acting. Notable musicians such as Bonnie Raitt, John Hiatt, and Don Henley provided the bears' singing voices.

Christopher Walken starred in the film as Reed Thimple, a villainous banker who tries to repossess the failing Country Bear Hall and demolish it. The movie follows the Country Bears as they host a benefit concert to save the hall.

Critics were largely unimpressed with The Country Bears, giving it a 29% critical approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Reviewers such as Marc Savlov called the film 'bizarre' and compared its plot to a David Lynch movie gone wrong.
