Chrome Blocks Over 7 Billion Unwanted Notifications Daily with New Abuse-Fighting System

Google's Chrome browser has developed an innovative 'Swiss cheese' defense model to combat notification abuse on Android devices. According to Google, this approach involves multiple overlapping systems that work together to stop abuse at different stages.

The goal of the system is to ensure that if one layer fails to catch abusive behavior, another layer will be able to step in and prevent it from reaching users. This approach allows Chrome to halt abuse at the source, preventing deceptive content from being distributed while maintaining a balance between utility and security.

One key aspect of this system is its ability to automatically revoke notification permissions from inactive websites or sites that repeatedly trigger suspicious-notification warnings. Users can review these automatically revoked permissions in Safety Hub and grant access again if they want to. Chrome also allows users to unsubscribe from notifications directly from the Android's notifications panel.
