Chrome Shifts to Bi-Weekly Releases Amid Steady Security Threats
Google has accelerated the release schedule for its Chrome browser, moving from a 4-week cycle to every two weeks. The change affects desktop, Android, and iOS versions of Chrome, starting with version 153 released on September 8th.
The faster pace is aimed at giving users and developers quicker access to new features, performance improvements, and fixes. Google notes that while releases will be more frequent, their smaller scope should minimize disruption and simplify post-release debugging.
The move comes as Chrome continues to face a steady stream of security vulnerabilities, including flaws being exploited before users can install a fix. Weekly security updates and the 8-week Extended Stable schedule remain separate from the new major-release schedule.
