Cink Clinches Boeing Classic with Dramatic Playoff Win
Golfers vied for the top spot at The Club at Snoqualmie Ridge in Washington state, where Stewart Cink emerged victorious after a playoff. Miguel Angel Jimenez was his opponent, and the two golfers had previously been tied with a score of 12 under par.
Cink's path to victory wasn't straightforward. He started four strokes behind the leader but rallied with a 7-under-par 65 on Sunday. This impressive performance allowed him to catch up and eventually take the lead in the Boeing Classic. Jimenez responded with an 8-under-par 28, which broke a tie with Cink.
However, on the first playoff hole, Cink's birdie put sealed his win over Jimenez. The close-range putt proved to be the decisive factor, as Jimenez's third shot landed in a greenside bunker. This was Cink's fifth win of the season and strengthened his hold on the season-long Charles Schwab Cup points lead.
Cink expressed satisfaction with his performance, stating 'You know, it’s really a good feeling to be able to have one good round and that be enough to remain in contention when I was kind of sloppy the first couple days.' He also acknowledged that he had a personal stake in winning this tournament after falling short last year.
The competition saw other notable golfers in action, including Denmark's Soren Kjeldsen, who finished third at 11 under par. New Zealand's Steven Alker and Ernie Els of South Africa were among those tied for fourth with a score of 10 under par.
