Cisco and KETS Quantum Security Unite for Quantum-Safe Networking Solution
KETS Quantum Security and Cisco have collaborated to integrate chip-based Quantum Key Distribution (QKD) technology with Cisco's IOS XR routing infrastructure. This integration demonstrates a functional quantum-safe networking solution, securing encryption keys using quantum physics.
The partnership combines KETS' QKD system with existing Media Access Control Security (MACsec) technology, delivering end-to-end encryption without disrupting network performance. The threat of a large-scale quantum computer becoming commercially operational will expose sensitive data currently being transmitted, from financial transactions to national security secrets, according to Lisa Matthews, CEO of KETS Quantum Security.
This integration is built on the same QKD v2.0 unit used in BT's recent trial, indicating a move toward field-ready solutions. The combined system reduces hardware footprint through chip-scale QKD, offering a more compact and cost-effective solution compared to traditional QKD implementations.
