Cisco Defies Cloud Orthodoxy with On-Premise AI Bet
Cisco Systems Inc. (NASDAQ:CSCO) is challenging the conventional wisdom that AI workloads will increasingly reside in public cloud platforms.
The networking giant's CEO, Chuck Robbins, stated during the fiscal fourth quarter earnings call that 'on-premise AI infrastructure will become an important option for enterprise customers as they look to optimize both the business value and cost of AI.'
This marks a departure from the long-held narrative that enterprises would increasingly move their AI workloads to hyperscale cloud platforms.
Cisco believes that companies are adopting a more flexible approach, deploying workloads wherever they make the most operational and financial sense. This strategy will require significant investments in enterprise infrastructure rather than cloud capacity alone.
