Cisco Helps Cebu Water District Cut 15% from Water Losses
Cisco and the Metropolitan Cebu Water District (MCWD) are working together to reduce water losses in Metro Cebu by 15% using smart sensors and real-time data. The project aims to tackle non-revenue water, or treated water lost before reaching consumers.
The technology will be piloted in the F. Pacaña area of Labangon, Cebu City, with plans to expand across Metro Cebu. Currently, MCWD loses about 32% of its water supply due to aging pipelines, valves, leaks, and pressure problems.
Cisco is providing networking and industrial edge technologies that will allow MCWD to monitor water flow and pressure in real-time. The data from smart sensors will be fed into a centralized supervisory control and data acquisition (SCADA) platform, giving operations teams a real-time view of the water network.
