Cisco Sounds Alarm on AI-Accelerated Cyberthreats: Enterprises Must Adapt or Perish

Cisco has sounded the alarm on the rapidly evolving cybersecurity landscape, where threats are now being accelerated by Artificial Intelligence (AI). The time between vulnerability disclosure and weaponization has shrunk from weeks to days or even hours in some cases.

As AI models speed up the process of finding vulnerabilities and generating exploits, organizations that rely on outdated infrastructure and security postures built for human response speeds are left vulnerable. According to Cisco Talos' 2025 Year in Review, enterprises take an average of 43 days to patch critical vulnerabilities, with 40% of targeted flaws affecting systems with limited patching options.

Cisco is urging technology leaders to adopt a new operating model for resilient infrastructure, transitioning from periodic discovery and reactive response to a continuous, AI-accelerated defense model. The company's Managing Director for Cybersecurity in the Middle East, Fady Younes, emphasized that organizations across the region cannot afford to rely on legacy cyber defense models.

Cisco has demonstrated the power of AI in cyber defense by using several frontier AI models to scan 1.8 billion lines of code across more than 25 languages in just eight weeks, a task estimated to have taken eight years without AI. To help leaders take immediate action, Cisco's executive brief outlines three practical shifts organizations can make to achieve continuous resilience:

Firstly, remediation must become part of a predictable and continuous operating rhythm, rather than an emergency drill. Secondly, organizations should use modernization to reduce risk by removing unsupported and end-of-life assets that create unnecessary exposure. Finally, defenders must match the speed of modern threats by segmenting environments, closing identity gaps, and equipping security operations centre teams with the tools to act rapidly and confidently.
