Cisco Unveils Next-Gen Data Center Networking Architecture with Nexus One
Cisco is revolutionizing data center networking with its next-generation architecture, Cisco Nexus One. Designed for standardization, flexibility, and choice, Nexus One addresses the complex interconnection challenges faced by modern private clouds.
The hardest networking problem in the private cloud is no longer connecting a single environment but rather simplifying operations across multiple environments in a consistent, secure, and scalable way. To tackle this challenge, Cisco has integrated its Nexus One architecture with VMware Cloud Foundation (VCF) and Isovalent Networking for Virtualization.
This integration extends Nexus One's unified network architecture from the fabric up into platforms like VCF, enabling teams to operate heterogeneous infrastructure as one system. By removing dedicated edge nodes from the distributed data path, Nexus One reduces infrastructure footprint and avoids centralized scale points in virtual infrastructure.
The Cisco-Nexus One-VCF integration is based on open standards, including EVPN (RFC 7432) and VXLAN (RFC 7348), which provide a durable contract between VCF Networking and the fabric.
