Cisco Warns AI Adoption Exposes Businesses to Unprecedented Security Risks
As businesses increasingly rely on artificial intelligence (AI) for productivity gains and better customer experiences, security teams are struggling to secure this adoption. The challenge is further compounded by frontier AI models like Mythos, which not only accelerate vulnerability discovery but also empower IT engineers to spin up AI-powered agents to speed up operations.
'Yesterday's insecure Python scripts have evolved into today's insecure, autonomous IT agents,' a statement from Cisco Blogs notes. While security teams have weathered various technological trends, including the internet era, BYOD and mobility landscape, cloud adoption, and more, they still need to close functional gaps in architectural initiatives like NIST's Zero Trust.
Zero Trust principles are based on three core principles: inventory, enforce, and detect. Inventory involves establishing baseline trust levels by cataloging users, applications, and infrastructure. Enforce requires implementing least privilege access control using the established baselines and inventories. Detect involves identifying deviations from baseline behavior and responding accordingly.
