Cloud Rebuild: Microsoft Tests Cloud-Based Windows 11 Reinstall Option

Microsoft has been testing a cloud-based option to reinstall Windows 11 without needing local boot media, even when the OS is corrupted. This feature, called Cloud Rebuild, allows users and IT administrators to reset devices to factory settings using only an internet connection.

Cloud Rebuild can be accessed through the Windows Recovery Environment, which appears after repeated failures to boot. Users can also reach the Recovery Environment via Settings > System > Recovery > Restart now. From there, they can select 'Troubleshoot' and then choose 'Reset this PC,' where Cloud Rebuild will appear as an option.

The feature requires network drivers for the Recovery Environment, but it works even if the current OS is corrupted. It also automatically restores drivers, ensuring the device restarts with basic functionality intact.
