Coca-Cola Cracks Down on Retro Fluminense Shirts

Coca-Cola has forced the recall of two retro-style Fluminense shirts due to trademark infringement. The shirts, designed by Liga Retrô, were inspired by Fluminense's 1992-93 season and featured Coca-Cola's trademarked script typography.

The 'Louco da Cabeça' chant was emblazoned across the chest of the vintage-style kits, which were launched in late July for the club. According to local journalist Paulo Brito, the recall was a result of a cease-and-desist notification from Coca-Cola.

Coca-Cola had been Fluminense's primary shirt sponsor from the mid-1980s through 1994, making it one of the longest-running main sponsorship partnerships in Brazilian football history. As a result, the company is likely to be sensitive about protecting its brand and intellectual property.
