Coca-Cola Faces Backlash Over Alleged AI Bias Against Christian Messages

Coca-Cola is facing backlash over allegations that its online personalisation tool blocks positive Christian messages while allowing references to other religious and controversial figures.

Conservative commentator Isabel Brown reportedly tested the company's 'Share a Coke' feature on camera, which is designed to create customised cans or bottles with user-submitted names or phrases. The system allegedly rejected phrases such as 'Jesus is good', 'Jesus Christ', and 'Holy Trinity', while allowing references to other figures like 'Allah is good' and 'Satan is good'.

When Brown entered additional phrases, the system blocked Christian expressions but allowed similar negative statements about Jesus. For example, 'the devil is king' was accepted, but 'Jesus is King' was rejected.

Coca-Cola's automated response states that submitted names or phrases may be rejected if they belong to businesses, organisations, celebrities, public figures, schools or teams, or if they are considered religious, political, inappropriate or otherwise unsuitable. However, the reported findings have triggered a wider debate online over whether the personalisation system is applying its restrictions consistently across religious and political expressions.
