Coca-Cola Factory Turns Movie Hub After Years of Neglect
The abandoned Coca-Cola factory in Plachimada, Palakkad district, has found new life as a popular location for movie shootings. The factory was shut down in 2004 after mass agitations against the extraction of excess groundwater for making soft drinks.
Over the years, the massive structure stood like a sad testimony to a wrong developmental model, with its ghostly corridors, defunct bottling plant, and empty godowns on the 36-acre premises. But this isolation has turned out to be a boon as the premises is now attracting film crews.
The location manager, Vijayan, says he got approval after taking representatives of Perumatty Panchayat into confidence. He later approached the state revenue department, which gave an approval charging a user fee of Rs 75 per cent per day.
