Coca-Cola Foundation Strengthens Responsible PET Bottle Collection at Puri Rath Yatra
Anandana - The Coca-Cola India Foundation has launched its 'Maidaan Saaf' initiative in partnership with local authorities and Hindustan Coca-Cola Beverages to promote responsible PET bottle collection during Puri Rath Yatra 2026.
The drive aims to strengthen waste management practices by encouraging the recycling of used PET bottles at high-footfall public gatherings across India. This year's edition builds on the impact of previous years, with 26.32 metric tonnes collected in 2025 and 17 metric tonnes in 2024.
Over 200 volunteers and Safai Sathis were deployed across key locations in Puri to engage pilgrims and local communities through folk art performances, nukkad naataks, and on-ground awareness activities. The campaign also included the setup of 10 Used PET Bottle Collection Centres and help desks at temple and beach locations.
The initiative has received praise from Dr. Mukesh Mahaling, Minister for Health & Family Welfare, Parliamentary Affairs, and Electronics & Information Technology, Government of Odisha, who said, 'The Rath Yatra is one of Odisha's most cherished traditions, and keeping Puri clean during this sacred occasion is a responsibility we all share.'
