Coca-Cola HBC Secures Approval for Major African Bottling Merger
Coca-Cola HBC has secured approval from South Africa's Competition Tribunal to acquire a majority stake in Coca-Cola Beverages Africa (CCBA), marking a significant step towards expanding its presence across the continent.
The regulatory green light, subject to conditions, paves the way for Coca-Cola HBC to take control of CCBA, with an option to purchase the remaining 25% within six years. The combined business is expected to account for approximately two-thirds of Coca-Cola system volumes in Africa, highlighting the deal's potential to strengthen Coca-Cola HBC's position in the region.
The acquisition comes amidst increased investment in Coca-Cola's African bottling and distribution operations, with South Africa remaining a major market. The company has announced plans for a R17.6 billion expansion of its bottling operations in South Africa, which is expected to enhance production and distribution capacity in the country.
